LA JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL MAY 1 - 8 TH 2014

The Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival (LAJFF)
builds community awareness, appreciation and
pride in the diversity of the Jewish people through film.

The mission of LAJFF is to preserve and celebrate our
rich Jewish heritage; to cultivate Jewish values and
quality of Jewish life in our community (not only for
the affiliated but unaffiliated); and to create and
maintain a sense of community by providing important
and exciting programming for individuals, families and
organizations.

THE GOAL

• To present films that preserve and celebrate
the rich tapestry of Jewish heritage.

• To build Jewish community by offering films
that create awareness of important societal issues.

• To introduce films that reflect the profound
heritage that Jewish people have brought to the
world.

• To find and present thought-provoking films
that will engage and build bridges between the
Jewish community and the broader multi-ethnic
fabric of Los Angeles.

• To offer unique, groundbreaking films that
are not offered in any other venue in Los Angeles.

• To create programming that will educate its
audience and promote the bright future of
Jewish creativity.

RECORD STORE DAY : LOS ANGELES / RECORD COLLECTOR / VACATION VINYL / ORIGAMI ORIGAMI / ROCK AWAY + MORE ...

 AMBASSADOR: CHUCK D

Record Store Day has been honored every year to add another powerful
name to our stable of Ambassadors. This year the man who carries the title
to tell the world about the greatness of record stores is the one, the only:

THE RECORD COLLECTOR : SANDY CHASE

VALIDATION : " The only people who can give a narrative thats correct or
that is legitimate are those that have been there, done that and observed
and participated in it. I'm one of those people."

DEFIANCE: " Look, I took art classes at Watts Towers when I was a kid.
The city tried to tear it down. They claimed it wasn't safe. Well, they found
out it was 10 times stronger than it needed to be. That's why its still standing.
Now, we want art back in our lives, we want our films back, we want our
music back, we want all these things back and the best way to do it is to
physicalize it. It is the most expensive way to do it, the most impractical
way to do it, but, it is the best way to do it. "

RECORDS : " You know, very educated people will say, ' Playing records
is too much work '. I said, ' You mean getting up off your ass every twenty
minutes to turn over an LP [ Long Playing Disc ] is work ? You went to college ?
You have an education ? A masters degree ? I said, all you guys, your all
f*+#~ing nuts ! '  When records were solid,  before the war on culture, music
and art history, every magazine: Playboy, Life, Time Magazine. Every magazine
had an established record reviewer and music critic. Hundreds of them, hundreds
of magazines. Now, you don't have the magazines. You don't have the reviewers.
You don't have sh*t. What happened ? People say, ' What does that have to do
with anything ? ' Thats the problem. Frankly, its a very important story. The
important story is , and here's where your magazine comes in : tapping into the
unknown desire. Because when your 20 or 25 you don't know what it is that you
really want. Your searching for it. Searching, searching. But, if someone has the
answer and you show it to them, suddenly, 'Viola' That's what I've been looking for ! "
